Photo Challenge

I’ve been so quiet recently on the photography front that I’m concerned that my modest photography skills are going backwards, which means I wont have any soon. Basically I have got so far behind in sorting out the pictures I have taken that I’m currently uploading pictures from October 2011 onto my Flickr account. With such a huge backlog I felt that I didn’t want to add to my files, so to a certain extent backed off taking photos. And also I would say that 95% are of Rosemary. Which is great to have so many and hopefully she will have a really amazing record of growing up to look back on in years to come, but does mean there are quite a number which are spontaneous and “snap shot” rather than composed or considered.

So got thinking that doing some sort of challenge to myself would be a good idea. The 52 series (1 picture a week for a year) was really good from this point of view and I tried a lot of things I wouldn’t have otherwise. Also the Art Photography course got me thinking about things as well, although a lot of that has now been driven from my brain by work.

So went hunting to see if there were any templates and which had been done by White Peach Photography. It looked like a really interesting list but there were a few things in it which weren’t really me. So a bit of editing and I reduced the subjects all down to single words (more or less) so that I could take it however I wanted.

And here is what I came up with:

The original idea was 1 photo/day but I’m going to do it from 1st September to 30th November (3 months). This gives me a couple of weeks to think about what I might do and plan my series. I don’t want to do it one/day as with work it gives me too little time to do something decent and I would rather do this slower and do a good job than rush and regret it.

Will see how it goes and then might try this periodically.

So anyone want to join me?

I tweaked this list from the original version I published as I had a slightly different idea about the set which I’m going to pursue.

So journey into work, touch in and out 4 times. Same home. 5 days a week is 40 swipes. Assuming 45 weeks a year travelling into work that’s at least 1800 swipes a year and doesn’t account for any additional trips. That’s a lot of swiping!

Not entirely sure about this shot but thought I would load it up and then decide whether it fits in the set or not. I do like it but as it doesn’t have the vibrant, over-saturated colours of the others in the set it may clash.

Anyway, clearly a zebra crossing processed with a little bit of tilt shift in it and then processed with the Lomo-Fi filter.

Not sure how many times a day I see this shape, probably heading towards a hundred. It’s everywhere in London, and is almost part of the psyche of London.

Seem to be falling into a bit of theme here with brightly coloured objects seen around London which have a line into the picture. Here is a line of traffic work bollards which have been occupying the area around South Kensington station for the last 2 years in various places.

Been a bit of a gap as just haven’t been thinking about this series very much with the Art Photography course going on but thought I better come up with some ideas before too long goes by and I forget about this series.

So here is a little concept picture. Liked the disappearing lines in this and added a little bit of tilt-shift to blur top and bottom out before adding the Lomo-fi filter (think this is my favourite within Instagram to be honest.
