We decided when Rosemary was born in 2010 to take at least 1 photograph a day for her first year as a record of how she changed and also what we did during that first year. Well that first year ended on 22nd April 2011 and it has taken me a long time to sort out the photos. Don’t know how I got so far behind, but I did and still trying to catch up with photos taken since then.

But here are those 366 photographs (the first one being Day 0) displayed as a slideshow. You can also find them on my Flickr Account.

Last homework from the Art Photography course was to do a self-portrait. Not my most favourite thing in the world and to be honest I had very little excitement for this particular assignment. I’m just not keen on the faffing around to get lighting right and having to keep taking photos to see if it works. Much prefer being behind the camera and being able to adjust things through the viewfinder without having to run back and forwards.

So tried a good number of ideas which didn’t really work and was getting a bit desperate to come up with something half decent. Even with having two weeks rather than just one due to the half term break.

But I was having a nightmare time at work as well, unable to keep up with what was coming in at all and when I was bemoaning this to a colleague they suggested that I clone myself. A little lightbulb went off in my head and I recalled some pictures with more than one image of the same person in it.

So thought I would reproduce it and see if I couldn’t get more done.

So there you go. Not 100% happy with the way the photo itself came out but the cloning worked well and I will try this again and give it a bit more thought next time to mix it up (change t-shirts etc) and try to get some more interaction between “myself”.

Cloned

Got a bit of mixed reaction as others portraits represented more about themselves and how they wanted to be perceived, and this is a less about that and more about showing a moment in time when you wished there was more of you.

It’s always nice to try and get some good photographs of eagles and owls. Trying to ensure the sharpness of the feathers and at the same time make sure that the background is nicely blurred out can be a delicate balance. But there is a big advantage that many agricultural shows or county shows will have an eagle display at some point during the day, and when the birds are not flying they can be found in a nice tent somewhere. The birds are calm and relaxed and photographing them in the diffuse light of the tent is a satisfying way of approaching the subject.
